LaWayne joined Mustangs on the Move as Site Coordinator in January 2007 and was soon promoted to Program Director due to his leadership abilities and programming expertise. His responsibilities include supervising the after-school program providers and working with students, parents, teachers, counselors and administrators to ensure that the Mustangs on the Move programs run smoothly and meet students’ needs. LaWayne is a graduate of John Muir High School and, as a former Mustang, is keenly aware of the challenges faced by Muir’s students, as well as being an inspirational role model. He received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Sociology from California State University. He previously designed, implemented and supervised after-school and summer programs for Gear Up in Inglewood, sponsored by the University of California, Los Angeles. The programs focused on mentoring students for college awareness, SAT and California High School Exit Exam preparation and life skills.
