Ricky Pickens, Jr.
Director of Prevention & Intervention Services

Ricky Pickens, Jr. photoRicky joined Flintridge in 2009 and serves as a case manager, gang interventionist, outreach worker and program planner for Flintridge’s community and collaborative projects. His responsibilities include identifying high-risk, high-need youth for mentoring and coordinating, supporting and monitoring the match relationships. He also planned and helped develop the curriculum for the Vision 20/20 Community Violence Intervention-Prevention Institute and facilitates training sessions.

Ricky has been involved in prevention and intervention programs for 18 years, most recently as a truancy officer for the Pasadena Unified School District. In 2007, he founded the Neighborhood Outreach Workers (NOW) program, a gang outreach program funded and operated by the City of Pasadena. He also served as a Gang Outreach Specialist for the Pasadena Police Department for five years, during which time his professionalism and respect for community members helped to eliminate resident complaints arising from Police Gang Unit enforcement activities. Previously, Ricky worked with Pacific Clinics and Five Acres in Pasadena as a child worker and with Cal-State Community Services in Altadena where he developed youth programs. Born and raised in Pasadena, Ricky is certified as a gang interventionist from Pacific Institute, as a mediator from Dispute Resolution Services (Western Justice Center) and as a facilitator from the Parent Project.
