Grantseeking Basics
This free one-hour session is specially designed for beginning grantseekers. You will learn the basics of how to find funding for your organization, as well as how to identify foundations and other sources that might support your nonprofit. The session includes an introduction to Flintridge’s continuing education services and an orientation to the Library’s resources. A wealth of information is available to help you with grantseeking and provide answers to all your nonprofit needs.
Sessions are generally held twice a month in Flintridge’s Philanthropy Resource Library. Please check the Calendar of Events for specific dates and times.
Grantseeking Technology
Learn to incorporate technology into your prospecting strategies so that you quickly and easily develop a list of potential funders. The free workshop provides hands-on experience with the Foundation Center's Foundation Directory Online. This is a comprehensive database of more than 96,000 foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities in the U.S. and over 1.5 million recently awarded grants.
You will have a computer to practice on as you research grantmakers and create your own list of potential funding sources. Additional helpful resources on the Foundation Center website and other Internet sources will also be covered during the class. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants. Please check the Calendar of Events for specific dates and times.
After completing the workshop, you can practice your new skills at two locations: Flintridge’s Philanthropy Resource Library has four computer workstations with access to the Foundation Directory Online. Flintridge also sponsors a subscription at the La Pintoresca Branch Library, which has ten computers with access to the online research database.
Conversation with the Funder
Nonprofit organizations can meet grantmakers and learn about their grant programs and application processes at this popular lunchtime forum. Nonprofits have the opportunity to ask the representatives of foundations and corporations about their funding priorities and guidelines and how to improve their chances of getting a grant.
Typically, the presenting funders have a stated focus on children, youth and families and the issues that affect their lives, as well as a pattern of giving to organizations serving the Northwest Pasadena/Altadena area.
Following the funder presentation and question-and-answer session, a local organization is invited to give a brief introduction about their programs for children, youth and families. This increases awareness of the featured nonprofit and enables the funder and attending nonprofit organizations to learn about other service providers in the community. Please check the Calendar of Events for specific dates and times.
