Flintridge Capacity Building Services Overview

Flintridge Center’s Community Services Program provides educational programming and resources for close to 400 nonprofit agencies throughout the San Gabriel Valley each year.

Our capacity-building philosophy:

    • Develop local leadership by working with individuals to improve their leadership skills in addressing community issues.
    • Help nonprofit organizations to achieve their missions by strengthening their organizational capacity, program effectiveness and sustainability.
    • Build community by initiating, facilitating and supporting community partnerships and nonprofit coalitions.

This multifaceted approach to capacity building is an important way that Flintridge works to improve the quality of life for children, youth and families.

Flintridge Center officesOur programming draws from more than 20 years of experience in the field, as well as from the TCC Group’s 2010 study on the state of capacity building in Los Angeles County, commissioned by the Weingart Foundation, and an external evaluation of our services conducted by the Human Interaction Research Institute (through Valley Nonprofit Resources).

In addition, we continually solicit feedback from our constituents about their professional development needs.

Among the program enhancements we have recently implemented are longer consulting sessions, expanded training for board members, and tiered workshops and trainings tailored to organizations at different developmental stages.

To build local leadership, we are also introducing two new programs, Millennium Leadership and Building Better Boards. In addition, we support the Pasadena Executive Roundtable, an informal consortium of local nonprofit executive directors who meet monthly to share common concerns around leadership and management issues.

Flintridge’s comprehensive services for nonprofits include:

Consulting sessions with a diverse pool of nonprofit experts.

A professionally-staffed Philanthropy Resource Library with free access to a wide array of information and grantseeking resources. This cooperating collection of The Foundation Center has been called ‘one of the most significant in the Western United States.’

Quality and affordable meeting space for organizations to gather, plan and solve problems.

Capacity-building scholarships for organizations serving the Northwest Pasadena/Altadena area to attend workshops and conferences.

Our vision is communities made stronger by the people and organizations we serve.

The Community Services program is made possible through the generous support of the S. Mark Taper Foundation Investing in Leadership Program, The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation and the Weingart Foundation.
