Waste Management Plan

Flintridge is committed to reducing our environmental impact or “carbon footprint” from our operations in as many ways as possible. To that end, we have contracted the services of Waste Less Living, Inc. to put in place a waste management system whereby waste is sorted into three distinct receptacles (the waste sorting station). We have installed the waste sorting stations throughout our offices and meeting spaces.

Please use the waste sorting stations to dispose of your waste. All organic waste captured is sent out for composting by Waste Less Living, Inc. It DOES NOT go into a landfill.

Compost

Any plant or animal-based items and ALL paper.

Recycle

Any plastic material that is visibly marked with a recycling sign and a number between 1 and 7.These items must be rinsed before discarding.

Trash - Landfill

Any materials discarded and destined for the landfill that are classified as neither recyclable nor compostable.

Our efforts also include reducing our reliance on plastic and paper disposable goods, and we have converted to using 100% biodegradable and compostable tableware products—made from plants not plastic—for most of our meetings and other events.

These products can be purchased through Waste Less Living for your event. Waste Less Living is on-call to deliver the supplies you need for your workshop or meeting. To order your products or for more information, please call (626) 786-5947 or visit www.wastelessliving.com.

What You Can Do

Waste Less Living provided the following list of things you can do to help reduce your carbon footprint:

    • Hire a caterer that currently uses compostable tableware.
    • Ask caterers not to bring plastic disposable goods, and use compostable supplies.
    • Select a menu that requires minimal utensils (for example: sandwiches, wraps, etc.).
    • Prepare juice from frozen concentrate in pitchers or dispense from cartons rather than plastic bottles.
    • Prepare coffee on-site and dispense from coffee urns or thermoses.
    • Serve cream/milk from cartons, and offer wooden stirrers.
    • Serve water from pitchers as opposed to plastic water bottles.
    • Use the waste sorting stations to dispose of your waste.
