Apprenticeship Preparation Program Students Thrive

The summer semester of the Apprenticeship Preparation Program isn’t even half over and our students have already accomplished so much.

Students now have their OSHA safety certification, which will give them a leg up when they apply to unions. They’ve been getting hands-on training on real construction projects, where they’ve learned how to use buzz saws, scissor lifts, and other construction tools. We also visited the Sheet Metal Union and Carpenters Union, where students got an inside look at what it takes to be an apprentice in those trades. Perhaps most importantly, the class has been working through issues of anger management, communication, and trauma in our weekly life skills sessions facilitated by 2nd Call. All of these will be key experiences for students to have under their tool belts as they move forward in their careers. We can’t wait to see what the second half of the semester brings!
