From Destruction to Construction

This semester our Apprenticeship Preparation Program renewed its partnership with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Each week, students get an opportunity to develop hands-on skills at an active construction site. The class has participated in everything from framing to installing insulation. These visits give students a chance to practice using hard skills while getting an insight into the strength, attitude, and teamwork required to excel on a job site. The diversity of tasks also allows individuals to begin focusing on which trade they want to pursue.

We are grateful to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity for hosting our students and appreciate the opportunity to be involved in community development. As a past APP student said, “I spent so much of my life being destructive, it’s important to me to be able to construct something.”
