Future Apprentices Arrive at Flintridge

A new semester of our Apprenticeship Preparation Program is well underway. It’s always exciting to welcome a new cohort of motivated and dedicated people to our home here at Flintridge Center. The Summer 2017 class has already dug deep into the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum, a special union-developed course that gives our students a leg up when they apply for union apprenticeships. They’ve learned about union dynamics, gotten an overview of the diverse range of construction trades, practiced construction math skills, and practiced pitching themselves to employers.
They’ve also started our partner 2nd Call’s life skills workshops, covering key issues that can impact our community members’ ability to maintain careers — like anger management, communication skills, and processing traumatic experiences. This past week, the class also began the newest component of the APP — construction-oriented physical fitness classes with community partner CATZ. Students will be participating in a 10-week training program designed to prepare them for the physical rigors of the construction trades.
Stay tuned for updates on our future apprentices’ progress!
