Happy National Volunteer Month!

April is the month of showers, flowers, and recognizing amazing volunteers that make our work possible — it’s National Volunteer Month!

The Youth of Promise program is powered by volunteers. Volunteer mentors commit a full year to youth mentees, acting as positive role models and guiding youth through life’s challenges. Meanwhile, volunteer tutors help Youth of Promise with their homework twice a week, ensuring all our youth stay on track in school and get the individualized support they need. One of our amazing tutors, Ranjani, goes above and beyond to uplift the young people we serve — even taking two of our youth on a tour of her college, Cal Tech, last year.

We just welcomed a new volunteer tutor, Bill Fairbanks, who will help our Apprenticeship Preparation Program participants strengthen their construction math skills — like fractions and algebra. Having strong math skills is essential to succeeding in union apprenticeships.

We are extremely grateful for our volunteers’ continued commitment and patience.
