Inside the Apprenticeship Preparation Program

With less than a month of the program to go, APP students have been spending four days a week preparing for careers in union construction. So far, the class has completed OSHA-10 and received their CPR/first aid certifications. They’ve toured the Sheet Metal Workers Union and the Carpenters Union, and last week they visited a PCL Construction project site at CSU Dominguez Hills. In the classroom, students are working through the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum and participating in employment development. The class has a weekly life skills session with 2nd Call and goes to CATZ Gym twice a week for physical fitness. Raynard, a student in the class, says that “math is the most fun day. It gets everybody engaged because we’re all working on math skills. We get to work together and help each other.”
