Mentee Leads Mustangs to Victory

Youth of Promise mentee and John Muir High School Mustangs quarterback Darren Meyers led the Mustangs to victory over the Pasadena High School Bulldogs in the highly-anticipated 70th annual Turkey Tussle game last week. Head over to Pasadena Now to see a recap of the game and a great interview with Darren.
Darren, now a senior in high school, has been active in Youth of Promise since 7th grade, starting off as part of a mentoring group with Pasadena fire fighters. Darren’s mentor Eric Woodard has seen him through some tough times over the last three years, including losing his mom to cancer last year. Despite facing some major obstacles, Darren has made big strides. Because of his academic and athletic talents, he’s been offered a full scholarship at Dixie State University in Utah, where he’s looking forward to studying marine biology. It’s truly incredible to see Darren and all of our Youth of Promise achieve their dreams.
