New Careers Move Forward

Last week Flintridge Center’s Apprenticeship Preparation Program (APP) visited the Local 78 Plumbers and Pipefitters union training site. Each construction trade is different, from the application process to the tools used and the technical skills required to be successful. Many of this semester’s students are interested in the plumbing trade because it encompasses a variety of crafts including welding, pipefitting, and diagramming.

The site visit provided class members with the opportunity to further explore their interest in the trade and gain insight into what qualities make a successful worker. “Have a good attitude and be teachable,” they were told, “that’s the most important thing.”

Two days after the site visit, several APP students went to the Local 78 office to submit paperwork and take an aptitude test, taking the first step toward becoming an apprentice in the union. We are infinitely proud of these students’ commitment to their future careers and look forward to cheering them on through the union application process.
