You Can Help Youth Succeed

Summer is right around the corner!

At Flintridge, summer means SKILLZ. The SKILLZ Summer School program is a nurturing and supportive space for youth to improve their academics and life skills. SKILLZ students come from families affected by poverty and impacted by community violence. Many of them have experienced trauma. These are the youth we fear losing to gangs and the prison system.

We want to provide SKILLZ students with a backpacks full of school supplies — helping each start the school year strong. Thanks to wonderful individuals and the Tournament of Roses Foundation, we’ve already raised over $3,700 to do just that. We also received a donation of brand-new backpacks from Elite Educational Institute in Arcadia. With such incredible community support behind us, we’re over three-quarters of the way to our $5,000 fundraising goal. Another $1,300 will ensure that every child in the SKILLZ program gets a backpack filled with everything needed for the school year.

Even the smallest donation will help a youth in need. You can donate online or by mail. You can also drop off backpacks and school supplies at our Northwest Pasadena location or have them picked up from your home or office. Contact Emma for more information.

The SKILLZ Summer School is a collaborative effort by Flintridge Center, College Access Plan, Day One, Lake Avenue Community Foundation and Church, PUSD, the City of Pasadena’s Human Relations and Recreation Department, and many other nonprofit organizations.
