Youth Make Moves
We’re so proud of our Youth of Promise! High school senior Mary was accepted to San Francisco State University — the first of what we are sure will be many college acceptances for Mary. Other youth are well on their way to accomplishments like this — 9th graders Kamari and Omar improved their academics, with Kamari moving three of his classes up a full letter grade and Omar earning his first 100% score on a math test. Meanwhile, 7th grader Jenni earned an award for showing the biggest academic improvement in her class.
At the end of last month, we celebrated National Mentoring Month with mentors, mentees, and staff from the Pasadena Mentoring Partners at our annual breakfast. PMP is a city-wide collaborative coordinated by Flintridge Center, that promotes mentoring throughout Pasadena and shares best practices for mentoring programs. The breakfast was a joyous occasion for everyone who attended. At the end of this month, five of our middle school girls will start training with Girls on the Run, a super fun and transformative program that helps girls improve physical fitness and build essential life skills.
