Youth of Promise Win Big

One of the best parts of being a Youth of Promise is getting together for fun field trips and parties.

Last weekend, we took over 20 youth to Dave and Busters for a fun-filled day of games and great food. We were joined by friends from Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters and Lake Avenue Community Foundation — agencies in the Pasadena Mentoring Partners network coordinated by Flintridge. Our youth got to play unlimited video games, watch a soccer match, and chow down on pigs in a blanket and fries.

Outings like this one are a blast for everyone, but they’re also essential to supporting our kids. Our Youth of Promise is just that — filled with promise — but they deal with difficult life circumstances that threaten their ability to reach their full potential. They’re deeply impacted by community violence, gang activity, and poverty in Northwest Pasadena and Altadena. We believe that it is extremely important to create a community where they feel safe, supported, loved, and encouraged to thrive. That’s what the Youth of Promise program is all about.
