Serving our community for over 30 years
The mission of the Flintridge Center is to break the cycle of poverty and violence through community planning, innovation and action. Our vision is of a healthy, safe community where families thrive, youth reach their full potential, and equality and opportunity are accessible to all.
Flintridge Center's focus on serving the community originated with the work of the Flintridge Foundation, which operated between 1986 and 2007. The family foundation was created through the estates of Francis and Louisa Moseley, whose four children became the founding directors. Governed by a board that grew to include both family and community members, the foundation made grants in four key areas—environmental conservation, theatre, visual arts and community services, which supported local community-based organizations.
Flintridge Foundation concluded its grantmaking programs in 2007, expending the majority of its assets in the priority areas it had supported. However, when it emerged that the loss of local programming would leave deep service gaps, the remaining assets were used to form Flintridge Center, a 501(c)(3) public charity, that would continue services for the original target communities of Northwest Pasadena and West Altadena.
Flintridge became increasingly involved in efforts to address persistent community disparities and reduce community violence. These efforts focused on high-risk, gang-impacted youth on the verge of dropping out of school and previously incarcerated adults who needed a second chance. Bringing diverse stakeholders together, we initiated and supported programs as collaborative endeavors, believing that partnerships were the most effective way to improve education, neighborhood safety and workforce readiness.
By aligning our programs and refining our mission, Flintridge Center has not only expanded our reach to provide services to a greater population, but is also now positioned to build on our strong track-record of quality services and significant community relationships, inspired by the vision of a thriving community for all.
